Animals in the newz

That is about the tall and short of it ...

Big Jake
A gentle giant -

Big Jake might be taller than any other horse in the world, says his owner, Jerry Gilbert.
Big Jake a 9-year-old Belgian gelding is the Guinness World Record-holder for world's tallest living horse at one quarter inch short of 6-feet, 11 inches!
That's 2.75 inches taller than the old record-holder, Remington- a Clydesdale from Texas.
Gilbert says Big Jake, who weighs about 2,600 pounds, is good with people and even likes to goof off. He says people are astonished when they see how big he is. Add to that size is accommodating nature.
Gilbert and family own Smokey Hollow Farm near Poynette, Wisconsin. He usually shows Big Jake as a draft horse in four-or six-horse hitches and raises money for the Ronald McDonald House.

Einstein
No bigger than a minute -

An elf-sized horse born in New Hampshire may claim title to the world record for lightweight foal. The pinto stallion named Einstein weighed just 6 pounds and measured 14 inches tall when he was born in Barnstead, N.H. While that may seem normal for a human baby, but is amazing tiny for horse, even a miniature breed like Einstein.
Dr. Rachel Wagner, Einstein's co-owner, says the Guinness Book of Records lists the smallest newborn horse as weighing in at 9 pounds.
Breeders say that unlike the current record holder, Thumbelina, Einstein shows no signs of dwarfism. He is just an adorable tiny horse! Just don't call him shorty.

  5. Awwwww, that's so neat you wrote about Einstein. I have his picture as my desktop background. :) He's absolutely adorable and so cute. I'd absolutely LOVE to have a horse like that. My daughter said he's very cute but too bad he's too tiny to ride. :)
